Just a little excerpt from my journal after a recent inspiration seeking trip to Melbourne.

THE SCHOOL ...Megan Morton

10am I head to The Establishment Studios in Prahran to take part in a Styling and Photography workshop with global styling sensation, Megan Morton, ex Food and Style Director of Gourmet Traveller, Chef and Food Stylist, Emma Knowles and renowned Australian interior and food photographer Sam McAdam-Cooper, who’s artful images have graced Inside Out, Vogue Living, Country Style, Masterchef and Delicious.

What can I say? Mind blown!

Apart from the opportunity of having access to this uber-talented trio of approachable generous professionals, the venue itself is a stylist dream. Rows of colour matched props, flats, swatches of material, table tops and windows throwing filtered light at perfect angles. Arghhhhhhh bliss. Leave me here to die!

Morton is a powerhouse, full of information and crazy monologues that go off at random angles as she shares stories of formal training, industry experiences and her own well built values around proper styling. Sam and Emma were both wonderfully easy to engage with and happy to share their skills, honed over years of hard work in the industry.

Creativity is a tough one to teach but Megan, Sam and Emma are enablers and the room was lit. Once all the attendees got over the sheer enormity of our situation we got to work, collaborated, peeked over each other's shoulders and just let the juices flow.

The workshop included the use of Olympus SLR cameras to capture our work and support from a photographer to set them up and keep us on track. Everyone left with a memory card full of captured images and a shared experience with a group of like-minded women. One of the highlights was hearing all the stories of what had drawn the other participants to the class from as far as Adelaide, Perth, and Karratha in rural WA. As a solo businesswoman, it was so beneficial to be reminded there is a village out there for me if I choose to dive in.
